Some thoughts on education.
I’d like to take a moment to examine our tendency for assimilating into the goal of college for our children. I say assimilate since it’s the predominant theme in our high schools, PTA and families with children. In the past there has been reason to seek a college degree such as job availability and drive to achieve status in the workforce. Today these goals are further and harder to acquire with a college degree.
Where do we find ourselves after having taken on the debt to keep institutions soluble? Are we in a better life place? Can we find work in our field of study? Does the work pay enough to ever think about getting the loans paid off?
The paper means less, the performance more. Employers want innovative thinkers that don’t cower from a challenge. These type of people are hard to find in the school system and in higher education. So how do we begin to help our children become marketable, desirable in their fields and sought after? We rethink education.
